Well, I'll damned - the things you'll find doing a random twin cities browse!

Hoping I'm not talking to an empty room here...

My name's Sylvia, I live in Ham Lake, I work at a bank, I'm an old broad and loving it, and FM 107 is about the only radio station I listen to anymore. It's a bit more real than NPR, yanno?

If you want to know more about me, ask, or check out my journal. Meanwhile, people need to get posting again!

btw... do the people at FM 107 know about this community?

I don't think they do.....and the community has been rather quiet. I'd love to see more activity.

I haven't been able to listen as much as I'd like due to a 2-1/2 year old that wants his music.

But, I still love my fm107!!!

My heart goes out to you. Just when you think you're finally going to get a decent night's sleep, your 2 1/2 year old is going to turn into a teenager. Any thought of rest then is going to go right down the toilet roughly until his prostate fails.

Whoops. First day here. Happy thoughts. ;-)

So, what do we do to shake things up a bit?

1) Start posting
2) Spread the word

I didn't create the community, but I think it's a nice spin off, and could had for more great conversation! Don't you?

Oh yeah. Definitely.

I've already put my two cents worth in on the Dr. Laura post. It could probably get me sued. ;-)

Wow, I forgot about this little community. I'm just listening to the tail end of Mary Jo Pehl and her guest host (while Cathie is on vacation). I always listen to this if I'm home on a Saturday, and they keep me company while I do some housework. I'll be turning the radio off now that this is over, as I can't handle the next show.

I doubt that they know of this community. Maybe the next time one of us hears them talking about blogging, we could let them know.

Sounds like a plan! (the letting them know part, not the housework. there are lengths to which I simply won't go.)

Hi Ruth! How awesome is that? We could be neighbors!

I live in the Pingers Park area... or close enough, anyway! You anywhere nearby?

Nice to see some life in this community again!

I don't know where Pinger's Park is, but I live just west of Lexington right in the middle of Ham Lake. There sure is a lot of construction out here!!

Did you hear Santa Claus yet? I heard him tonight.

I'm on the other side of 65, in that area between Constance and Crosstown.

No, I haven't heard Santa yet, but then, I haven't really been paying attention. I got home from work around eight, and have been down in my basement ever since, playing on the internet.

I think a lot of the joy is going to be missing in that event this year, what with the schoolbus accident this morning. God, what a horror. I passed it on my way to work.

Oh! I had not heard about the school bus incident, though I was out driving and interacted with a number of school buses. I'm not sure I dare ask what happened. So many sad things go on.

I know where you live - of course that's not far from me at all!

So, what all do you like to do? Are you going to any fun events this month? Do you belong to a church you recommend? Etc.?

Horrible accident... it happened this morning, right on the corner of 65 and Constance. A Kottke's bus headed for McKinley Elementary was going to turn right onto Constance when the brakes failed. It plowed into two other vehicles before slamming into and upending the traffic light pole. Two dozen people were taken to hospitals, mostly kids. The driver of the SUV that was hit, a mother with her kids in the car, is still in critical condition.

Don't even get me started on Kottke's. My son was in a bus accident a couple of years ago - it was the bus driver's fault; he went through a stopsign and broadsided another vehicle - and, as Alex was close to home, he just got out and walked the remainder of the way. I never received a notification from either Kottke's or Alex's school that my child had been in an accident. Never. If I dug enough, I'm sure I could come up with all kinds of stories. I hope they get the pants sued off of them.

What do I like to do? Hmmm... lots of stuff, really, although I rarely have the time for anything. I love music and art and theater, and am married to a farmboy who couldn't care less. ;-) I'm a goof for karaoke. And oh, I do love to eat.

Checked out your journal - I see you're friends with Perkk. His housemate Steven is a friend of mine. Small world. ;-)

As to churches, I have yet to find one around here that I'm comfortable in. I've been thinking about checking out the Unitarians.

What a horrible accident, and right where you live! I'm beginning to think I'll have to watch out for Kottke's buses and make sure I don't trust them to stop at intersections.

I like to play board games and card games. I get to go do that tonight. Do you like to play too? You're close enough that we could meet to play backgammon or some other game. We could even go for a walk. I bet Ham Lake Park is right between us. It's not far from either of us, anyway.

My son is turning 18 in January. I don't have any more, just the one. I'm trying to gradually survive the change over to the relatively empty nest.

I'm into ham radio. I've been selling lots of things lately.

What have you been up to? What do you like to do?

I also do cross-stitch, when I remember to. It's kind of hard on the eyes, but I enjoy it.

My son's 18 - they probably know each other!

I haven't played backgammon in thirty years. I've probably forgotten how! I used to love Trivial Pursuit, but don't play that a whole lot anymore either.

Walking could be good - I've got enough lard to burn off to keep us busy all winter, and then some. ;-)

So, what do I like to do..... hmmmm..... nap, that's real high on the list. Read. Write. Travel, however infrequently the opportunity presents itself. Play with layouts here on LJ. And, as I mentioned before, karaoke is fun as an occasional diversion too. When I do manage to drag my husband out, it's usually to the VFW here in Ham Lake. Working as much as we do, that doesn't happen much.

We have sons the same age! That's neat! They probably
don't know each other, though, because my son was
home-schooled.

My husband doesn't get out much either. He likes to
work on things at home, use his treadmill, and nap on
the weekends.

Did you ever read anything by Sark? She talks a lot
about the value of napping.

I've been trying to sell a Cardioglide for $15. It's
good for abs and everything else. I walk an awful lot
and I'm not sure it does much of anything for lard
except on legs. They say that weight comes off evenly,
but I don't believe it.

Nevertheless, I believe walking is good for cardio
health. And some of our yard is all wooded and fun to
walk through. We have some fun parks, too. It'd be
great to go walking sometime.

Where do you like to travel to? I love travelling too,
and always someplace new.

What do you like to read? I'm reading a lot of
different things right now, including some interesting
items about the environment which my son has assigned
me from one of his university classes. It's got me all
excited about nature, not that I'm not already in
general.

I get to do some cross-stitch today in Maplewood.

Your poems are lovely - I was reading them, and your
blog, too.

Re: hi Sylvia!!

Glad you like my work.

I read pretty much anything and everything... it's more for diversion than any kind of edification. truth be known. I'm not nuts about romance novels, and the self-help stuff leaves me cold too, but otherwise, I'm open to reading anything.

Never heard of Sark, though!

I most recently traveled to Berlin, where I spent a good portion of my youth, having grown up as an Army Brat. My mother, my aunt and her family, and I all went together, and it was just wonderful.
